The Shiba-Human Coexistence Treaty

A binding agreement between one (1) Shiba Inu ("The Fox") and one (1) human ("The Staff").

Document Type: Household Accord

Effective: Immediately upon the arrival of The Fox


Preamble

Whereas The Fox is an ancient, intelligent, semi-feral creature wrapped in premium fur, and

Whereas The Staff desires peace, companionship, and the illusion of control,

Both parties hereby agree to the following terms, conditions, loopholes, and unspoken judgments.

Article I - Authority and Governance

  1. The Fox acknowledges The Staff as Provider of Food, Shelter, and Walks.
  2. The Staff acknowledges The Fox as Final Decision-Maker in all matters deemed "unnecessary."
  3. Authority shall be shared, except when inconvenient to The Fox, at which point authority shall revert immediately to The Fox.

Article II - Commands and Suggestions

  1. All human "commands" are legally reclassified as suggestions.
  2. Suggestions may be:
  • Ignored
  • Evaluated
  • Mocked internally
  • Followed later, possibly
  1. Repeating a suggestion more than twice renders it void and slightly embarrassing.

Article III - Affection and Physical Contact

  1. Affection shall occur only when initiated by The Fox.
  2. Acceptable forms of affection include:
  • Sitting near (not touching)
  • Brief leaning (3 to 7 seconds)
  • Sudden lap occupation followed by immediate departure
  1. Hugs are prohibited.
  2. Picking up The Fox requires:
  • Prior consent
  • A good reason
  • Acceptance of screaming as feedback

Article IV - The Shiba Scream

  1. The Scream is a protected form of speech.
  2. It may be deployed during:
  • Vet visits
  • Nail trims
  • Perceived injustice
  • Mild inconvenience
  1. The Staff agrees not to:
  • Apologize excessively to strangers
  • Explain loudly
  • Cry (publicly)

Article V - Walks and Outdoor Exploration

  1. Walks exist for sniffing, not distance.
  2. Direction shall be determined by The Fox, unless danger exists, in which case The Fox will protest loudly.
  3. Recall is acknowledged as:
  • Optional
  • Context-dependent
  • Unavailable during squirrel sightings

Article VI - Food and Negotiation

  1. Meals shall be inspected before consumption.
  2. If food is deemed unacceptable, The Fox may:
  • Stare
  • Walk away
  • Return later to see if standards have improved
  1. Treats increase cooperation but do not guarantee it.

Article VII - Territory and Furniture

  1. All furniture belongs to The Fox.
  2. The Staff may use furniture with permission, which is implied but revocable.
  3. The Fox reserves the right to occupy:
  • The exact spot The Staff intended to sit
  • Clean laundry
  • Anything black (for maximum fur visibility)

Article VIII - Social Interaction

  1. The Fox is not required to:
  • Greet guests
  • Like other dogs
  • Perform friendliness
  1. Ignoring others is considered polite behavior.
  2. Anyone who says "He just needs to get used to me" shall be silently judged.

Article IX - Escape and Curiosity

  1. Doors are opportunities.
  2. Gates are puzzles.
  3. The yard is a suggestion.
  4. The Staff agrees to:
  • Double-check everything
  • Accept responsibility
  • Never say "He's never done that before" again

Article X - Emotional Support

  1. The Fox provides emotional support by:
  • Existing nearby
  • Judging silently
  • Choosing proximity during crises
  1. The Staff agrees not to demand reassurance.

Article XI - Shedding and Housekeeping

  1. The Fox sheds:
  • Constantly
  • Seasonally
  • Spiritually
  1. Fur is now a permanent home feature.
  2. Lint rollers are symbolic.

Article XII - Term and Enforcement

  1. This treaty is effective immediately and lasts for the lifetime of The Fox.
  2. Enforcement is at the sole discretion of The Fox.
  3. Violations will be met with:
  • Side-eye
  • Withdrawal
  • Strategic noncompliance

Closing Statement

By remaining in this household, The Staff agrees to all terms above, including those not yet revealed.

In return, The Fox offers:

  • Chosen loyalty
  • Dry humor
  • Quiet companionship
  • A relationship based on respect, not ownership
